What was I Supposed to Remember?

Petey the Pup: Is dis a test? Dang! I knew we shoulda jus stayed home an’ done chores like we was s’posed ta.

This is not a test. It’s a simple reminder that the Fine & Dandy Fabric Fundraiser is coming up THIS Saturday (March 23) from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm in the current library building (210 N Main Ave).

Gee, thanks for the scoop! Once this hits the wires with MY byline, maybe the boss will take me off of the Lonely Hearts column.

Friends are welcome to come to our Preview Sale from 9:00 to 10:00 am. Not a Friend? No worries; join at the door!

Really?

Yes, really!

The fundraiser is all about selling fabric that has been sorted, measured and tagged (at MUST-GO prices). All you need to do is come and BUY, BUY, BUY! For more information about the sale, click here.

Questions? Email or call Donna (360-887-2700).

Hope to see you there!

Oh, yes! I want to reprise my role as court jester (seen here in my favorite college photo). Alas, this costume no longer fits my middle-aged rolls. I know the Fine & Dandy Fabric Fundraiser will have just what I need.

Sew Much Excitement. Again. For Real This Time.

This is no way to drive to the Fabulous Friends Fabric Fundraiser. That’s why we chose to cancel the event in February. We’re hoping that you won’t need much more gear than your wallet for the rescheduled event on MARCH 23.

serious seamstress

Okay. Remind me. I can’t keep all the details in my nicely permed head.

If you’re into sewing, quilting, or making:

costumes, set designs, small home décor projects, totes, handbags, or crafty projects, don’t miss this fundraiser!

Community members have donated piles of all kinds of fabric. Some with multiple yardages. Lots are one yard or less. VERY reasonable prices!

When? Saturday, March 23, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm (Members of the Friends of Ridgefield Library are invited to the special Preview Sale from 9:00 to 10:00 am prior to the public event that Saturday.)

Gee. I wish I was I Friend. I’d love to get in early.

No worries! Just join at the door. The Friends will  welcome you!

Where? The Ridgefield Community Center (small room)

Questions? Email or call Donna (360-887-2700).

We’ve tried to make shopping as easy as possible for you.

all chemical and a yard wide

We measured, priced, and labeled every piece of fab—whoa! Wait just a minute! Iix nay on the Ihemicals cay! We know nothing about the chemical composition of the fabrics. Do we look like microscale metamaterials physicists? I rest my case! What was my case, anyway?

Now, all that’s left is for you quilters, sewers (um, er, people who sew), crafters, and costume or set designers to come down to the Ridgefield Community Center on Saturday, March 23 between 10 am and 2 pm. You can enter for free, but please don’t leave empty-handed!

Really? You’re gonna let me go to the Fine & Dandy Fabric Fundraiser knowing what a hound I am for a good deal? Howl about that!

This fundraising event is sponsored by the Friends of Ridgefield Community Library. All proceeds go to support current and future programs and to help build our new library.

no tricks no sleeves

Friends don’t keep any money for themselves. Honest. There won’t be any pulling of tricks from our sleeves; we are clearly a sleeveless kind of group!

As always, thank you for supporting YOUR public library!

Saturday? February 9? Hmmm . . .

old woman thinking

Hmmm. This Saturday . . . It’s not Valentine’s Day or Earth Day. I don’t think I scheduled my semi-annual hair cut, manicure, and pedicure for that day. But I know it’s something I want to attend. Oh, yes! I know! It’s that Fine & Dandy Fabric Fundraiser the Friendly folks who support the library are holding. Yup. I plan on whipping me up a new vest. Had this one since the late 1930s.

On the off, off, off chance that you forgot, SATURDAY, February 9 from 10 to 2 in the small room of the Ridgefield Community Center, the Friends of Ridgefield Community Library are holding a SUPER DUPER fabric fundraiser.

Um . . . Excuse me. It’s called the Fine & Dandy Fabric Fundraiser. We crafty kittens feel quite strongly about our cutsie names.

One Small, no, Giant Step …

land_on_the_moon_7_21_1969-news

Okay, fine. So maybe our “step” isn’t quite as big-hoopla-showy and ooh-la-la memorable as the moon landing, but it’s jump-up-and-down, gotta-spread-the-word fabulous. At least we think so.

Next time you are walking or driving by the Ridgefield Community Center, you’ll notice some new signs indicating that construction will begin soon on YOUR new, bigger, better library!

big jump

We just saw the signs. On the library, that is. Great news! We’re so excited. And, if you don’t mind our saying so, these are pretty giant steps, right?

Our dream of a new library became a vision that we, as a community, supported (and continue to support!) in every way. Now, four years later, our new library is becoming very real.

old woman cigarette

Only four years? Really? I could have sworn it was longer. My hair was was jet-black and I had eyelashes when we started this fundraising campaign!

As the current library relocates and construction begins, keep your eyes peeled here for news about library programs, fundraising events (yes, we still need money to make the dream a reality), and updates on the construction. You can also visit the Friends of the Library website: folridgefieldwa.com for current information. You can also join the Friends!

old communication

I’m begging you, People, use these nifty information sources available to you, otherwise, I’m going to have to dust this old monster off, hope she works and blast out news alerts … or tobacco smoke. I can’t remember what this thing does …

Thank you, Ridgefield and everyone who invested in this treasure of a community resource! And a HUGE thanks to the Ridgefield Community Center for providing us with the perfect site for the library.

thank_you!

It’s Official! A New Home for our Library!

you_are_the_dancing_queen_by_ehlinn-da07nl1

Don’t know about you, but it’s been a LONG time since I’ve been this flexible. But … we’ve been waiting a LONG time to get the official word about our new library’s home, too. So, let’s shimmy, shake, and swing in celebration! And turn up your heating pad to the “Yup, I acted like a young-un’ again” setting.

You’ve probably heard the unofficial word that the Ridgefield Community Center is going to be converted into our new, bigger, modern Ridgefield Community Library.

images

Yup! Even I’ve heard that rumor.

Well, it’s not a rumor anymore! It’s official.

The Memorandum of Understanding among the Ridgefield Community Center, the FVRL Foundation and the Trustees of the Fort Vancouver Regional Library District is signed, which allows the planning for the new Ridgefield Library to proceed.

images-2

This means we can get serious about building the library because we have a site.

Congratulations to everyone who worked so hard to make this happen.

The thermometer on the sign outside the library has changed to reflect that the generous donation of the building qualifies for the matching grant through the Community Foundation for Southwest Washington. The building’s appraised value will be matched!

We gratefully thank the Ridgefield Community Center Association. And a big thanks to each and every one of you who have supported us and will continue to help us as we raise the much-needed funds to complete this valuable project for YOUR community!

Painters, Listen up!

Gee, they look as if they are having fun, but we weren't thinking of that kind of painter.

Gee, they look as if they are having fun, but we weren’t thinking of that kind of painter.

Have you ever wondered if you could paint something beautiful?

No, not paint a house, fence, or your face, but put paint a picture on paper and have it look like something:

  • recognizable

  • fabulous

  • worthy of sharing with family and friends

Well, here is your chance!

On Saturday, November 17, from 9-11 am AND Monday, December 3, from 9-11 am, Ridgefield’s renowned artist, Kathy Winters, will expertly guide you in creating your very own Christmas cards in watercolor, ready for personalizing, signing and sending.

No experience in painting is necessary, and all materials will be provided. She will hold the workshop in her downtown Ridgefield studio.

The size of this workshop is limited, so CALL Kathy NOW to register  (360-887-2160). She can answer any questions you may have as well.

The fee for the class is $45 ($40 if you’re a member of the Friends of Ridgefield Library).

You could sign up for both! $80 ($75 for FOL members). All proceeds benefit the Library Building Fund and current library programs.

Give it a try! This may be the beginning of something really wonderful!

I don’t know. Clearly, it’s fabulous. And my friends and family will be so hoppy that I’m finally doing something constructive with my nervous energy. But it’s supposed to be carrots. lots and lots of carrots. I don’t even get hungry when I look at it …

As always, thank you to everyone who supports the library by attending these FUNdraising programs!

Too Many Books? Pish Posh!

Is it possible to have too many books? The Friends Fall Used Book Sale is just around the corner, so it’s a timely question. Let’s ask some passersby …

Buffalo Chips

I can’t say much ’bout too many books. But I sure as shootin’ are haulin’ too many buffalo chips. Ain’t nobody toll me pioneerin’ were gonna be so dang smelly!

39562299424_80b6bfcd3b_b

We both love books and more books. A novelette by Daphne du Maurier entitled “The Birds” is a particular favorite. We disagree, however, on a fondness for birds. I wonder why?

I don’t know about you, but that wasn’t very helpful. Let’s ask one more person. He’s John Q. Benham of Avoca, Indiana. His private collection of books numbers over 1.5 million. As they have filled up his house, most of them must be kept in his six-car garage, a two-story building, and piled under tarpaulin outdoors.

library2-600x405

John may or may not be in this picture. If he’s not, I hope he’s heading over to Ridgefield for our used book sale next week!

So, People, it looks as if the majority of people we spoke with believe that you can’t have too many books.

It’s a good thing that the Friend’s Fall Used Book Sale is coming up soon! Here are the details:

Thursday (10/18) from 6 to 8 pm: Members-Only Appreciation Reception and Early Access to the sale. If you want to become a new member or are renewing your membership, fill out the membership form in advance or at the door. We’ll have delicious treats for you to savor while you browse the tables and shelves packed with books, two raffles for a free bag of books, and many great door prizes. The Reception is in the small room of the Community Center and the used book sale is in the large room.

Friday (10/19) from 11 am to 7 pm: The sale is open to members and the public. Anyone may still join the Friends! This year, we are having a “Marketplace” in the small room of the Community Center (where you will be paying for your purchases). You will find a variety of A+ gift items for that special “someone” for the holidays (or any day).

Saturday (10/20) from 11 am to 3: pm: Same as Friday, only the hours are shorter. There may be a special sale the last hour. You’ll have to come on down to find out!

As always, we appreciate everyone who comes along and buys “merch” that helps fund our current library and goes towards the building project for our new library.

We also are in need of helping hands to set up before, staff, and clean up after this major event. If you have even an hour or two and feel like making a difference in your community, please contact Jeanne at (360) 887-2579 or jeanne.androvich@mindspring.com

We’d love you to do some things with us!

What’s Red or White and Makes you Glow all Over?

5523455775_5ec11dd0e7_b

What? Red? White? Glow? I can’t even figure out where I am and why I’m wearing this funny hat! I don’t even play the saxophone…

Give up?

Okay.

It’s wine!

And if you walk, skip, march, saunter, jog, or simply go to the Ridgefield Community Library, you will find TWO gift baskets that the Friends of the Library are offering for their October silent auction. Bid on one basket or bid on both!

100_1415

100_1414

What’s inside these beautifully-wrapped baskets you should get for yourself or as a gift for someone you REALLY like?

They each have two bottles of wine, chocolate, a wine-related book (stories more than wine info), glasses, and a few additional goodies. One basket features red wine; the other features white wine. Each bottle comes from one of four of Ridgefield’s wineries.

Are you feeling glowy yet?

Remember, ALL proceeds of the auction will be used to support the Ridgefield Library Building Fund and other programs and services provided by the Ridgefield Community Library.

Cheers to everyone who supports the library! But hold the wine. Give me more of that chocolate in that basket!

Chasing balls? I’m in!

dog-on-phone-vintage-photo

I simply must tell every poochie pie and putter nutter that something big (well, bigger than me) is a-coming in September. I sure hope this fancy contraption works. If it doesn’t, I’ll have to run around all of Ridgefield and yap, yap, yap the news. Trust me, no one wants that.

And the news is…

The 4th Annual Golf Tournament fundraiser to benefit the Ridgefield Library,
FORE! the Library Building Fund will
be held on Sunday, September 30, from 1 to 7 pm.

And here’s what you need to know:

  • This tournament is an 18-hole scramble

golf-619503_960_720

What? I paid my registration fee, and the gal who called me said it was a Scramble. I scrambled to get this ball after some human batted the thing way out here. I’ll give it back when I’m finished. Cross my paws and hope to slobber.

As always, thanks for continued support of YOUR community library!

3rd Annual Guilt-Free Pizza Night! It’s True!

Girl_eating_pizza

There’s no room for guilt when eating is this much of an adventure!

Go ahead.

Have seconds…or thirds.

Just make sure to save your splurge for
MONDAY, AUGUST 6, from 4-9, at
Vinnie’s Pizza, Pasta and More in downtown Ridgefield

That’s when your (and our) favorite downtown Ridgefield Italian restaurant is hosting a fundraiser to help raise money for the Ridgefield Community Library.

Vinnie’s Pizza, Pasta and More will be donating 10% of the proceeds all food and drink sales (eat-in or take-out) to the library building fund! As a bonus, the generous owners of Vinnie’s will donate another 10% to equal 20% cash-back to YOUR wonderful library!

If that doesn’t want to make you grab another slice of pizza and raise it in a toast for our awesome community, I don’t know what will!

Ridgefield is full of pizza party animals!
